Sleeping Problems Faced By Babies
You are likely to face sleeping problems with your children from time to time basis. Those instances may occur when your children is sick, or when it is affected by emotional problems. Glad to say that these sleep problems is not permanent, however, although they are just temporary, when they are here you or your children will not sleep well.
Moro Reflex
When a baby is born, they come with many different reflexes. You will find your baby having a moro reflex when he shoots his arms wide before bringing them back together. The moro reflex only occurs in a baby for that moment, however it can easily disturb their sleep. Babies that know how to go back to sleep themselves will do so when they wake up from a moro reflex, however for those who do not, they will be crying for help. Moro reflex will go away at the age of 5-6 months.
How do you solve it? Make Use of a swaddle. Swaddle can help you reduce moro reflex from happening when you wrap a baby tightly. For easier usage you can get a swaddle pouch. From SwaddleTots, although they are selling swaddle in Singapore. They provide international shipping as well and they are certified.
Do i know how to sleep?
Your little one does not know how to go to sleep himself. There are different levels of sleep where we will unconsciously be awoken from. Even after waking up, we will just take it that nothing has happened and go back to sleep. However, your baby may not know how to go back to sleep himself if you also help him to do so.
How do you manage? You need to foster independence to your children to let him go back to sleep himself. Knowing how to sleep does not come naturally, you have to guide your children so that they will know how to sleep on their own. You can give him a small blanket to cuddle. So that you can leave him with the blanket when he is going to sleep. The reason is because, when he wakes up and finds the blanket he will remember the time with you, slowly he will be comfortable and goes back to sleep himself.
Day and Night?
You may find your baby sleeping all day in the day, however, they do not even go to sleep at night. The reason is because your children do not know when it is night time, they do not have any differentiation to darkness and brightness.
How do you solve it? It is paramount to teach them when has the night come. You will have to enforce strict routines to show them that the night has arrived. You can introduce a night time toy or song, you can also stick to a set of simple routines such as bathing, feeding and story. When you carry out this bedtime routines you children will naturally be aware that it is time for bed. Another good practice is to point out night time sounds to your baby. I like to take Ivan outside in the early evening hours so we can listen to the crickets chirping. He finds the sound very soothing and it helps calm him and transition him into the night time routine. Plus, as he gets older, he'll be able to identify the sounds of crickets as an evening sound.
